Pramono: Clean Water Rates in Jakarta Are Cheaper Than Its Surrounding Areas

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung emphasized that water rates in Jakarta are cheaper than those in the surrounding buffer zones. He made this statement in response to demands for lower water rates in flat buildings.

cheaper compared to all its neighbors

"I want to say that water in Jakarta is cheaper compared to all its neighbors," he said, Wednesday (7/23).

Furthermore, the construction and maintenance of clean water infrastructure also requires significant costs. Pramono wants clean water services to be accessible to all Jakartans.

Council Urges PAM Jaya to Speed Up Water Infrastructure Development

He then highlighted the unequal distribution of clean water services in Jakarta, especially for residents of North Jakarta, who have to buy water at a higher price than other residents who have received facilities from PAM Jaya.

"It's not fair," he added.

Therefore, this water price adjustment is considered crucial for achieving equitable access and benefits. He continued that the last water tariff adjustment was in 2007.

So, when compared to cities surrounding Jakarta, water prices in the capital are much more affordable.

"Therefore, in order to achieve equal access to water, the price of water must be adjusted," he stated.
